Randhir Khare has, through his life, work and writing, managed to encompass activities that have helped to highlight and provide solutions to disposed and disadvantaged people and communities in India.

Inspired by his early work among Bangladesh refugees and at Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying and the Destitute in Calcutta, he went on to cover more than two decades of work on development and Randhir Khare - 6th April 2007education programmes for Government of India, State governments – including those of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir and with NGO groups in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and international agencies – notably the Middle & North India Zone of UNICEF and the Regional Office of UNICEF for South Central Asia.


 


His experience is extensive…he developed a nationwide campaign on disability awareness, Randhir giving a talk - 6th April 2007communication strategies and community education programmes and evolved a unique awareness campaign using traditional theatre, music and story-telling arts for the eradication of guinea worm and the prevention of waterborne diseases.

He was commissioned to devise and execute two statewide campaigns to fight terrorism in Punjab and was consultant to the National Literacy Mission. His contributions to grassroots programmes in many Classroom - 6th April 2007areas of the country have been extensive.

Over the years, he has spent a great deal of time working among tribal and traditional communities in many parts of the country. Presently, he is Adviser to The Nilgiris Adivasi Welfare Association and works closely with them among the tribes of the blue mountains in the Nilgiris of Tamil Nadu in South India, on a number of projects. Notable among these projects are those related to empowerment through the strengthening of cultural and folkloric traditions.
